This changed in 2020 when Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition came out, compiling the original game's DLC with additional content, improved visuals, and even a remastered soundtrack. As a result, the most recent Age of Empires 3 expansions have exclusively been for the game's Definitive Edition.

Although not the most recent game in the Age of Empires series - that title goes to 2021's Age of Empires 4 - Age of Empires 3 is considered by many to be the most notable of the series.
